Hardik Pandya Rested for Upcoming Test Series Against Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored a half century against Board President's XI in a warm-up game here on Saturday, rued the fact that they were not given left-arm spinners to practice against ahead of the first cricket Test against India from Thursday.

In a wise move, which seems to have been initiated by the team management (coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli), all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who was earlier named in the squad, was on Friday rested from the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Only Angelo (Mathews) and Rangana (Herath) played here and none of us played in India before. Nobody else (has) played here. It was good batting-friendly conditions and the ball was not turning much, so most of us batsmen got runs. Have a few plans.

"I know Jadeja and Ashwin are both hungry for wickets".

Quality of BPXI bowling: It's all about runs... Every time they bowl it's about sticking to the basics. "We should look this as a great platform to perform and give everyone a chance and succeed", said Samson.

DR Congo were the only team still with a chance to catch Tunisia, but they fell short despite a late 3-1 win over Guinea. Morocco sealed its place by winning 2-0 in Cote d'Ivoire in what was a straight shootout for the place from Group C.

India Test squad for the first two Tests: Virat Kohli (c), KL Rahul, M Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (Vice-Captain), Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma.

"That hundred helped me a lot to take some confidence to Pakistan". Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dimuth Karunaratne started off strong and shared a 134-run stand for the opening wicket after being asked to bat, before the latter retired out for 50. I played a lot of sweep and reverse sweeps and they had to change the field position. "I try to bat for longer periods and that is my gameplan". If we need them to change the field you have to do something extra. It doesn't matter if they bowl fast or slow, if they bowl good line and length that's the most the hard part for a batsman. "If it does not work I will think out of the box and give some extra pressure to the bowlers", further added the Lankan opener.

Meanwhile, commenting on the specualtions of surrounding the appointing of Chandika Hathurusinghe Karunaratne maintained that it will be a good move for Lankan cricket.
