Sam Smith opens up about identifying as gender non-binary

Back in 2014, Smith arrived on an global stage with In the Lonely Hour, which won four Grammy Awards, but according to Wise, in 2017, Smith is either an entirely different person or a "strongly remodeled one". He explained he was afraid to say the wrong things that would offend other people.

"I don't know what the title would be, but I feel just as much a woman as I am man", Smith, 25, said in an interview with The Sunday Times, before revealing two Venus symbol tattoos.

He said: "I remember, at the beginning of my career, being called a "gay singer", and I didn't want that". Some people who don't feel they identify as either a man or a woman identify as non-binary or gender neutral. I've got loads of heels at home, adding he will "buy everything - heels, dresses", when he goes shopping in Sydney drag store, House of Priscilla, whenever he visits Australia.

In related news, Smith was previously criticized for his 2016 Oscar speech in which he claimed that he was the first openly gay person to win an Academy Award.

He recalled that when he first moved to London at the age of 19, he "was literally the only gay in the village".
