A frost advisory is posted for Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee and Chautauqua counties from midnight tonight through 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Temperatures in counties along Lake Ontario, Central New York and the Hudson Valley could dip into the low 30s tonight.
"Frost may damage sensitive outdoor plants if they are not protected or brought inside", the weather service said. Typically, since air temperatures are not measured right at the ground, it is possible for frost to form with an air temp of 36 or less since it is slightly cooler right at the surface of the earth at night, due to long wave radiation.

Monday morning's chilly temperatures will not be a fluke: The rest of the week will feature cold bus stop temperatures all the way through Friday. Winds are from the northeast at 17 miles per hour. Temperatures Monday morning were almost 15 degrees colder than they were at the same time Sunday morning, and there will be very little warm up during the day. The statewide low is 45 at High Point and the high is 62 in both Sea Girt and West Cape May, according to the state climatologist's office. However, a brisk northwesterly wind ushered in cooler air throughout the day.
It'll be another chilly night Tuesday with clear conditions and lows in the upper 30s and low 40s. Mostly sunny, highs near 72°. Find NJ.com on Facebook.
