Melissa Etheridge busted for drug possession at US-Canadian border


Melissa Etheridge was arrested this summer for possession of marijuana at the U.S.

Melissa Etheridge and Todd Rundgren were both recently busted by US Customs and Border Patrol for alleged drug possession at the US-Canada border, TMZ reports.

According to TMZ, the drug-sniffing dogs picked up the scent of Etheridge's substances and exposed her marijuana oil to agents. She was booked for possession of a controlled substance. took a super pleasant mug shot, and pleaded not guilty. Despite the run-in, she appeared to be in good spirits and smiled in her mugshot.

Etheridge was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in October 2004 and survived a lumpectomy and five rounds of chemotherapy and radiation but hasn't relapsed since.

We have a feeling the family won't be vacationing to North Dakota anytime soon.

She is now cancer-free but still uses marijuana. "It brings you much closer. It's too hard otherwise, '" she said at the time.

'It was a wake-up call for me, ' she told Yahoo! "I think if I get a little more specific, it can help guide the conversation in general about cannabis".

She has also been open about smoking pot with her adult children, and pushed back against those who might judge her for it.

'I'd much rather have a smoke with my grown kids than a drink, ' she commented.
