Woman who swam in crocodile-infested creek feared dead

Forensic testing is being conducted on "biological matter" found near clothing and a walking stick after a dementia sufferer went missing from a far north Queensland nursing home.

"Because of the proximity of these items and this unknown material located near this creek bank, we can not rule out the possibility of a croc attack", Acting Inspector Ed Lukin told reporters at a news conference.

A MISSING elderly woman is feared to have been killed by a crocodile after cops found possible human remains and a walking stick near a croc-infested creek.

Lukin said police believed Cameron had wandered into the dense bushland, where she became lost, but it was not known if she had entered the water.

"It is my deep regret to inform you that following an extensive search and the discovery of certain items as a result of that search, we have the firm belief that my nan Anne Cameron has passed away in tragic circumstances", Isabella wrote.

Attempts are now being made to positively identify the clothing and the remains.

"We continue to search the area in the hope of finding her alive [but] because of the proximity of these items near the creek bank, we can not rule out the possibility of a crocodile attack".
