Settlers of Catan Is Getting a Movie Adaptation

Maybe it will be like a Jumanji movie where players are sucked into the board game? It will either be a surprisingly clever take on a popular board game property (1985's Clue) or it will be 2012's Battleship. But Sony Pictures is hoping for the former whilst in the mix of their current negotiations.

Through its original release in 1995, "Settlers of Catan" gained honors from the Germany critics and was named as the "Most Prestigious Game of the Year" award victor. Players build settlements, cities, and roads to connect them as they settle the island.

It's unclear what the plans are to convert The Settlers of Catan into a film script.

There has been no confirmation that the studio has acquired the rights to this movie yet, but it seems they are aggressively pursuing it. Blaise Hemingway will pen the screenplay.

Variety reports that Gail Katz (The Perfect Storm, Air Force One) will produce after acquiring the rights back in 2015.

It's then implemented using code structures similar to the ones used in app and website development. The end product is a powerful deep learning interface that's both accessible and performant.

Dan Lin, whose credits include "It" and "The Lego Movie", and Jonathan Eirich will join the producing team.

"We're excited to be working with Sony to bring the iconic world of Catan to life", Katz said.

Sony intends to fast track the Catan movie once the acquisition is finalized. He added that he was also a huge fan of the game and he believed on the endless opportunities that the movie will inspire its viewers, Entertainment Weekly reported. "It's not every day that you have the opportunity to work in a world beloved by millions of people, and expand its story for the screen". Personally I think most of the fun is in the gameplay and not really the world, but if they can make a full-length movie about emojis, someone will probably pull out something decent with Settlers of Catan.

Klaus Teuber's wildly popular board game The Settlers of Catan is now being looked at as a possible movie franchise.
