Following the incident, local villagers gathered at the spot, set the vehicle on fire and held a rasta roko at the accident spot.

A speeding Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) allegedly in possession of a local Shiv Sena leader mowed down three school girls in Baramati tehsil.

One girl is also said to have been injured in the accident. "Both the girls died on the spot while the third girl sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital", a police officer said.

According to locals, the vehicle belongs to the Shiv Sena Baramati unit chief Pappu Mane.

The three arrested persons have been identified as Akash Jagtap, Rushikesh Chaudhar and Prithviraj Chavan, all residents of Baramati.

However, Bangar refused to say whether Mane was among the two who are yet to be arrested, or whether he was driving the auto.
