Local organizations receive $55K to help victims of domestic violence


Did you also know that almost 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S.?

Community members gathered in Coburn Park to raise awareness of the programs available to help those in abusive relationships.

In the simplest terms, domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. So, it is important that we know red-flag warning signs of abuse and what to do if we recognize that it is happening.

Volunteers are always needed and welcomed.

The Young Woman's Christian Association, located in Binghamton, will use the money to provide shelter and counseling to those affected by domestic violence. Rise also works to eliminate violence through education for youth and our community.

The organization has a number of services that are free and confidential to all victims of any crime.
