The 34-year-old Burnley forward is now sidelined by a knee problem.

Reports on Wednesday suggested Republic of Ireland worldwide Walters, who missed his country's final two 2018 World Cup qualifiers, would be sidelined until at least Christmas due to a recurring knee problem.

Walters has only played 70 minutes of football for Burnley this season and his ongoing rehab is set to be longer-term, according to Sky Sports.

The first leg takes place between November 9 and November 11 with the second leg on November 14 at the latest. It's a historical injury, a wear-and-tear injury and needed time to calm down.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche said ahead of the October 1 victory at Everton: "Jon won't make it as we are still letting his knee calm down".

"We are hopeful it will settle down quickly".

"Once it has settled down it needs strength in the knee and that's where we're at".

"He's our captain on the field and off the field and it has been great to have him and Jon Walters, who are two big players for us, around the last few days".
