J&K: 2 Air Force Commandos killed in Bandipora encounter


Two Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were on Wednesday killed in a gunfight with militants in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, an army official said.

As per latest information, three security personnel have also sustained injuries in the encounter which began in the wee hours of the day.

The hiding militants triggered the encounter as they fired at the security forces approaching the house. An Army jawan also died in a brief encounter with militants in the Budgam district of the state.

The gunfight broke out just two days after forces on Monday killed top Jaish-e-Mohammed militant commander Umer Khalid in Ladoora area of North Kashmir.

One of the terrorists, who was gunned down in Gatipora village, was identified as Abid.

According to reports, few more terrorists are believed to be still holed up in a village and the operation is underway. The Director General of Jammu and Kashmir police SP Vaid termed it as a major breakthrough.
