In North America, cases of West Nile virus (WNV) occur during mosquito season, which starts in the summer and continues through fall.

According to the Mosquito and Vector Managment District (MVMD), the chickens are part of a "sentinel" flock.

According to the Equine Disease Communications Center website, NY is reporting a case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis and more cases of West Nile Virus.

This is the second human case of West Nile virus that Denton County has confirmed this year in Frisco. WNV cases have been reported in all of the continental United States.

MVMD said that West Nile virus cases are down from the same time in 2016. EEE infections in horses are not a significant risk factor for human infection because horses (like humans) are considered to be "dead-end" hosts for the mosquito-borne virus.

With $1500, this is how Trump's digital director made $94 million
He was an influential player in the Trump campaign, working behind the scenes as a sort of secret weapon, reports Stahl. Typically 50,000 to 60,000 variations were tested each day, he said, and sometimes as many as 100,000.

Some people experience mild symptoms such as fever, headache and body aches, which subside after a few days to weeks.

However, in elderly people and those with suppressed immune systems the virus can be deadly. "The evenings are cooler and folks may want to sit outside, but it is very important that they take personal precautions to avoid mosquito bites because the viral activity is continuing".

Vaccinations are available for horses from area veterinarians.

West Nile virus is passed primarily between birds by mosquito vectors.
