Guardiola admits he must win titles to survive at City

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has heaped praise on Pep Guardiola, describing his Manchester City counterpart as the best manager in world football.

Asked about whether the end-to-end nature of English football, and the emphasis put on winning second balls, held back the national team, Guardiola responded by citing teams who "like to play" - though United weren't one of them.

"I understand completely when they are unhappy being absent, completely", he told Lineker. [Jordan] Henderson, [Adam] Lallana too.

However, truly great players give themselves time on the ball in any situation.

The City manager said that his players now had the belief in his high-pressing system and had set out their stall to try to win every game rather than adapt to a more defensive, counter-attacking style when they visit the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal. Look at Marcos Alonso - he is playing with a drive that I did not think he possessed.

The manager, though, steered clear of blaming his player, saying: "I think days off are to be happy".

NO ENTRY John Stones keeps a watchful eye on Eden Hazard

Chelsea will be bouyed on the fact that they crushed Athletico Madrid 2-1 at their new home in Spain in the UEFA Champions League.

'Here [in England], the defender is here and the striker is here so the ball does not travel with the team.

City have enjoyed a flying start to the season in their bid to build on the titles won in 2011-12 and 2013-14, top of the table ahead of neighbours Manchester United on goal difference.

"Hopefully the Catalan people can use the most powerful tool in society, the ballot box, and tomorrow can be a nice day for our country".

"I do not know what is going to happen in the future. So it's 'whoosh", energy, up and down'.
