The vehicle boasts a new face, ditching the split grille of the outgoing model in favour of a look more in line with the rest of Ford's line-up.

No pricing has been released for the new auto, which goes on sale later this year, but no major changes are expected from the outgoing car's £15,645 opening figure. Paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, it's good for fuel consumption of 4.5 litres per 100 km. The new engine comes with Intelligent AWD that can adjust torque delivery up to 50/50 between the front and rear wheels in under 20 ms.

The engine line largely parallels that of the new Fiesta so the one litre EcoBoost petrol I3 is available in 140PS, 125PS and - from mid-2018 - 100PS tune with six-speed manual gearbox while the 125PS will also come with a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with steering column mounted paddle shifters. The 1.0 EcoBoost gasoline motor will be offered with 125 or 140 HP.

The overall styling of the revised EcoSport is the same as what we saw on the 2018 USA -spec version. The fact that they needed to reinforce this hints at the previous Indian-made version not quite making the cut.

A new ST-Line trim has been added to the mix, with 17in alloy wheels, ST-Line badging and a leather interior standard.

The exterior color palette includes 12 options, including the Lightning Blue, Ruby Red and a vibrant metallic orange shade called Tiger Eye. Those who want an extra kick of personalisation can opt for the new contrasting painted roof color option. Yes, the old EcoSport's dated Fiesta-based dash has been binned, and in its place a thoroughly modern looking design with big, bright colour touchscreen taking centre stage on higher-spec models and a more grown-up look throughout.

The new EcoSport will also be available with automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, heated steering wheel and Electronic Automatic Temperature Control.

New seats designs are optimised for greater front and rear occupant comfort, and deliver a more upscale feel while the interior also features a host of smart stowage solutions, including a new height adjustable boot floor that can be raised to provide concealed storage, or lowered to increase luggage capacity to 334 litres.
