Sheffield University is one of 15 Russell Group universities offering clearing places along with Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Durham, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Queen Mary, Queen's Belfast, Southampton and York.

I did worse than expected at A level: what are my options?

This year's results are the first since the government introduced major reforms to A-levels.

Students who miss out on their first-choice university course have a better chance than ever this year of securing a course in Sheffield through clearing.

For the uninitiated - which is everyone - Clearing can be a bit daunting.

You will then search for a course against the subject you are interested in or the university that you want to study at.

"Medicine or Law might not be in clearing for some universities, but the majority of courses will have some clearing places".

This means that, if you miss your grades, you can contact universities directly to see if they will accept you.

What do I need to bring to collect A-Level results?

Yes - you can log in to UCAS Track on the morning of results day and see whether you have been accepted or unsuccessful in gaining places at either your firm or insurance university choice.

The online list is updated regularly - you might not find the exact unis/colleges/courses you're looking for - some might be full, but some might get vacancies later on, so keep checking back. Be patient and persistent. There's no rush to make a decision but do some further research as it may just be what you were after but didn't realise the option existed!

Got your A-level results? "So, if you have any questions please do give them a call". If they decide they want to offer you a place, they can do this via UCAS straight away, rather than waiting to receive an application from you.

It remains open until September, allowing you to contact unis directly if they still have spaces on a course which takes your fancy.

How many Clearing choices can I add?

So, if you need to clarify any information or make any changes, you will need to contact UCAS directly.

If your UCAS Track says unsuccessful, unfortunately you have not been accepted and should enter Clearing.

If for some reason the uni doesn't confirm your place, don't worry.

Please only add a Clearing choice once you have permission from the university or college to do this.
