Yuvraj Singh and wicketkeepers Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant have been omitted from India's squad for the limited-overs leg of the Sri Lanka tour. Virat Kohli had earlier confirmed that he is more than willing to play the ODIs and lead the side while spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested for the limited-overs string of the tour. Senior Pro Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the series against the West Indies has also been included in the 15-man squad for the ODI and Twenty20 series. Rohit Sharma also returns to the squad as vice-captain after being rested for the West Indies tour.
Pandey's recall has come on the back of a strong one-day triangular series for India A in South Africa, which the side won: scores of 55, 41*, 86*, 93* and 32* to be named Player of the Series. The series starts on August 20 and ends on September 3.
Mumbai fast bowler Shardul Thakur has been called up to the ODI squad for the first time while spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel, who did well for India A in the triangular series in South Africa, have been given a chance to prove themselves.
The T20 match will be played on Sept 6. Dating back to 2005, India have only lost one ODI series in Sri Lanka, a tri-series held in 2010; they won series in 2008 and 2009 (twice) and then five years ago.
