Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper suffers ugly-looking knee injury

During the first inning of the Nationals' game against the visiting San Francisco Giants, star outfielder Bryce Harper's leg buckled as he touched first base.

Harper has a hyperextended left knee after getting hurt on a groundout. Harper clutched his left knee in agony as trainers came out to assist. Given injuries to Harper, Stephen Strasburg - who has a rehab assignment Monday - and others, the Nationals' focus is getting healthy for the playoffs. Giants players were already leaving the stadium several minutes before the announcement was made, a half-hour lag in Major League Baseball informing the teams and fans getting the notice. Only the Rockies' Charlie Blackmon had scored more runs. For the 2015 National League MVP, any long-term injury would impact his future earnings.

Harper sustained the injury in the first inning while rounding first base. It didn't begin until 10:06 p.m. after another extended weather delay, and it was raining when Harper lost his footing on a base that had water on it.

There was no malice. "I couldn't get the ball down in the first inning".

Posey, in all likelihood, will start the nightcap of the doubleheader while Nick Hundley gets the start in the matinee on Sunday.

Bruno Mars Donates $1 Million to Flint Water Crisis
Bruno Mars did a seven-figure solid for the city of Flint, Mich., during his show on Saturday night (Aug. 12) in suburban Detroit. Bruno Mars' "24K Magic World Tour" kicked off its North American leg in Las Vegas following a three-month European excursion.

So they waited three hours before the storm could pass and the field could be prepped.

Taking a bat like Harper's out of the lineup makes the Nationals a lot weaker. For now, the best thing to do is like Nats manager Dusty Baker said: pray.

He was the Cubs' manager in 2003 for the Bartman game. Samardzija has won three in a row after a 6-3 win versus the Arizona Diamondbacks with all three runs plated over 6.1 frames. Yet the Nationals did not see an October inadequacy when they picked him to take them to the next level. This season, with the Giants off in a ditch, Baker is set to pass him once more.

Along with being rivals, Baker and Bochy are friends.
