Local science organizations offer help to prepare for the solar eclipse

The Stem in the Sky eclipse event at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center is from noon to 4:30 p.m. When will another big eclipse be visible in the United States? Special eclipse shades will be available.

The Oak Ridge Public Library will give out 500 pairs of eclipse glasses to library patrons on Monday, August 14.

"The event is being referred to as 'The Great American Eclipse", because an approximately 70-mile wide path from OR to SC will witness a total eclipse of the sun and nearly the entire continental United States will see at least 60 percent of the sun obscured. Homemade sun filters and regular sunglasses do not provide sufficient eye protection.

United Kingdom should stay out of US-North Korea war: Jeremy Corbyn
It appears President Trump is willing to take that risk. "Well, he's acting more responsible than this guy". Ahrens was not alone in his criticism, as many reactions on Twitter agreed.

Other bogus glasses have come stamped with forged logos of reputable manufacturers or with phony safety labels. Outside of the path of totality, always use solar filters. Mining the data from NASA, here are all the total solar eclipses touching the US over the next 100 years. As the moon passes by the sun, the moon completely blocks the sunlight in an area of total eclipse and blocks a portion of the sun's light in areas of partial eclipse.

Any filter less opaque than that may cause severe eye damage that would not become evident until hours later, Chou warned.

Stand still and cover your eyes with your eclipse glasses or solar viewer before looking up at the bright sun. In Norfolk, you can expect a 90 percent blockage of the sun.
