Bills trade Sammy Watkins to Rams, land Jordan Matthews from Eagles

In a flurry of moves on Friday, the Buffalo Bills have made significant changes in their roster as the season approaches.

"This was a unique opportunity", Eagles de facto general manager Howie Roseman said. "We weren't out there shopping Jordan Matthews".

"We are going in a direction", McDermott said. There's a bit of irony to all of this: After the Bills sacrificed picks to draft Watkins in 2014, the team is now adding picks by trading him in 2017.

Despite what some might consider inflated numbers, Matthews' production is unquestionable. "It wasn't easy seeing him, but we are excited about seeing him in Buffalo, and we know he will do some great things up there, but it's time to move on". The others are Randy Moss, Odell Beckham Jr., Mike Evans, Larry Fitzgerald, A.J. Green and DeAndre Hopkins.

Matthews joined the Eagles as a second-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft after setting an SEC single-season record for receptions and SEC career records for receptions and receiving yards at Vanderbilt.

"This is not a throw-in-the-towel thing at all", Beane said. "It's in our best interest". With Kayvon Webster earning a starting job outside and Nickell Robey-Coleman in the slot, Gaines was going to have a hard time finding playing time.

But while the 21-year-old may appear ready to take over Cleveland's offense, Jackson isn't prepared to hand him the reins. You don't make decisions to make them. "You want to do what's best for your team and for your players".

I can imagine the Rams, with no real number one receiver, liked watching that.

Darby, a second-round draft pick of the Bills in the 2015 NFL Draft, started 14 games for Buffalo a year ago, recording 60 tackles and assisting on nine more. "Darby is just 23 years old and has two years left on his rookie deal". And he didn't rule out a possible reunion with Matthews, however unrealistic that might be. Jacksonville released left tackle Branden Albert, 32, who is now free to sign with any other National Football League team.

Philadelphia made several additions to its passing game this offseason, signing free agents Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith. His teammates flooded social media in the wake of the trade to wish him the best.

He was especially close with tight end Zach Ertz and quarterback Carson Wentz.

The important parts of the deals, at least for fantasy owners, are Watkins going to the Rams and Matthews going to Buffalo. When the Eagles traded Matthews, they gave up a player who has 225 catches in three seasons. McVay wants to get this Rams offense back to its greatness, but getting a receiver that is injury-prone and probably will play only 10 games a year will not get you there. "I asked them to continue to trust me and our decisions, in terms of what we're doing, and we need to be focused on what's in front of us". But it hurts when people you care about leave.
