40 killed in Nepal floods, landslides

Nepal government has called for assistance in the search, rescue, and distribution of relief in the aftermath of the heavy loss of life and property due to the landslide and floods in different parts of the country.

Flood and landslide triggered y Monsoon rain has left at least 49 people killed, media reports said on Sunday.

According to local officials, another 10 people were missing and the death toll is likely to grow as much of the country is under water.

A hotel owner said they used elephants to transport tourists to the nearest open highway and airport to help them return to the capital Kathmandu.
