Voting open for Iowa license plate redesign


Officials have unveiled three new options for the state-issued license plates for Iowa motorists.

In addition, Iowans who now have county standard plates will receive replacement plates with the new design when their current plate reaches the end of its 10-year replacement cycle. "Specialty" license plates and plates with a collegiate design will not be changed. Those who want to get the new plate before their current plate reaches 10 can buy them for $5 at their county treasurer's office.

The Iowa State Fair gets underway in Des Moines today and runs through August 20.
