The Punch reports that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, chairman of the party's Special Non-Elective National Convention, said this in Abuja.
Over 3000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party are expected to be in attendance at its unity convention in Abuja this Friday at 6pm.
"I am impressed by the renewed enthusiasm and commitment of members towards rebuilding the party after the protracted leadership tussle", he said.
But he did not reveal the identities of the defectors and their political parties.
The governor, who addressed the journalists after inspecting the Eagle Square venue of the party's non-elective convention holding on Saturday, said necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a successful event.
"I have observed the Constitution of PDP and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and wish to state as follows: Senator Ahmed Markarfi's Caretaker Committee should be given at most another three months to allow new executives and other organs of the party to be elected to enable the Party move on".
Coutinho submits transfer request
Coutinho's career graph has only risen exponentially ever since he joined Liverpool from Inter Milan back in 2013. Philippe Coutinho rocked Liverpool this afternoon by formally asking to leave following interest from Barcelona .
"Many of our members that left earlier due to one form of disagreement or the other will return to their party because the National Caretaker Committee has constituted a Reconciliation Committee as well as a Contact and Mobilisation Committee to reach out to them".
He said the party was ready to reclaim power from the All Progressive Congress, APC, assuring that the party will deliver dividends of democracy and engender steady growth and holistic development of the country. He was, however, absent at the inaugural meeting of the committee on Wednesday.
The Governor was accompanied on the inspection by former Governors Peter Obi; Liyel Imoke; Ibrahim Shekarau and Idris Wada, Rahaman Yero; Celestine Omehia, Senator Biodun Olujimi and other members of the planning committee.
"We have come this far through a tortuous journey. We cannot afford to make another mistake that could affect the fortunes of the party in the days ahead".
Meanwhile, there was a mild drama at the PDP national secretariat on Thursday when the committee set up to screen the seven governorship aspirants for the Anambra State governorship election openly expressed displeasure about what it called acts of indiscipline by some of the aspirants.
