This won't be the first time that competitive video games have contended for a slot in the Olympics.
Tony Estanguet, co-president of the Paris Olympic bid committee, plans to speak with representatives of the esports community and the International Olympic Committee to bring the growing sport to the 2024 lineup, according to the Associated Press.
Estanguet also had some thoughts for esports sceptics out there: "We have to look at it because we can't say, 'It's not us". "Yes, the youth are interested in eSport and this kind of thing. Let's see if we can find some bridges", Estanguet added. Regardless, the Paris 2024 Olympics is still years from now so there's plenty of time for the International Olympic Committee to determine if eSports truly has a place in the world's most prestigious sporting event.
Estanguet, a three-time Olympic gold medal victor in canoe slalom, said the committee simply can't look the other way when it comes to eSports.
Is Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce off the cards?
A friend of hers told the publication that there might be a reconciliation "if he showed he was committed to raising a family". Angelina praised her and Brad's six children. "It's just been the hardest time, and we're just kind of coming up for air".
Final decisions on additions to the Paris games won't be made until 2020 leaving plenty of time for argument. The athlete has stated its intention to further develop this subject with the followers of eSports, before making a formal proposal to the worldwide olympic Committee. The practice came under intense criticism past year, and efforts to crack down on virtual betting exchanges was enforced by video game developers. But will the prim-and-proper Olympics adopt eSports with the same tolerance? But Estanguet isn't making any promises.
"I don't want to say no outright". It is transcending so far, in fact, that is is actually being considered for Paris's Olympic Summer Games. There will be no dramatic vote, as the French capital is the only remaining bidder for the Olympics after Budapest, Hamburg, and Rome all withdrew their candidacies.
With the rising popularity of gaming, eSports is breaking new ground. The biggest games at popular esports events, however, include League of Legends, Call of Duty, Dota 2 and Federation Internationale de Football Association are among the most popular games in competition.
