Disney reveals Star Wars land model in advance of D23 Expo


Disney's D23 Expo kicked off tonight and io9's Germain Lussier was among the first to lay eyes on a detailed diorama-which attendees could only observe from a distance of three feet away-revealing what the Star Wars Land theme parks will look like when they open in 2019.

Disney gives fans a first look at what the Star Wars land expansion at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will look like.

'To say we are excited for the Star Wars-themed lands to open in 2019 is an understatement, ' chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Bob Chapek said. In addition, Star Wars Land will also include new droids each with their own unique personality. It it may not seem as varied as you might have expected from a land trying to cover the incredible movie franchise, but it appears Disney has scaled it to focus on the origins of the series instead of all of the worlds and constructions that feature in the iconic movies.

Chapek plans to share exciting new details about the project during the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Hall D23 Presentation on Saturday.

The model depicts the entire land which will appear in each park, including the exteriors of the Millennium Falcon and First Order battle rides.

At D23 Expo 2015, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced the Star Wars project.

The site added, "Guests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance".

The 14-acre Star Wars-themed park in Florida will be the largest themed expansion in the park's history.
