Florida Beats LSU to Claim Its First College World Series Title

Trailing 2-0, LSU got an infield hit by Watson to start the seventh. The Gators swept the best-of-three series with their SEC rivals after beating the Tigers 4-3 in Game 1 on Monday night.

Florida starter Tyler Dyson handcuffed LSU for six innings, and when LSU's offense finally came alive over the final innings, third base turned into a diabolical Bermuda Triangle.

The Gators got going nearly immediately, as they started off strong early in the first inning to take advantage of the momentum from their 4-3 victory in Game 1.

"I just tried to go out there and let them get themselves out and trust the defense behind me, and that's how I was successful early".

The Florida Gators were a hungry team. LSU surged at the end of the season when Freeman and Robertson elevated their games, setting the table for Deichmann, who hit more home runs (19) and drove in more runs (73) than any other LSU player since 2010 and 2008, respectively.

Then came the seventh, an inning that the thousands of hooting and hollering LSU Tigers fans at TD Ameritrade Park won't soon forget.

Holding a 2-1 lead in the top of the 7th, LSU put runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. But it was ruled Slaughter interfered with the throw to first by sliding through the bag at second and Smith was ordered back to third base.

Dr. Jerry Poché, father of Tigers starter Jared Poché, and Jimmy Roy, father of strength coach Travis Roy, performed CPR to revive the man during the sixth inning of Game 1 of the CWS finals.

LIRR: Trains delayed by track condition, overnight fire
After arriving at Hunterspoint Avenue station, rider Marisa Baglio, 38, of Bayshore said, "It's frustrating". The MTA initially said it was a track issue, then specified it was a problem with the third rail.

"From my vantage point, I didn't see anything wrong".

The play proved to be huge when Beau Jordan lined to center field for the final out, stranding Smith at third. Jackson Kowar got the final out and Florida won their first national baseball championship, joining just a handful of schools who have won national titles in football, basketball and baseball. As Slaughter beared down on Florida shortstop Dalton Guthrie, he veered toward the outfield to try to break up the potential double play. Or you could say, like O'Sullivan, that this was inevitable. All of us, our coaches, our players, our support staff and athletic department personnel are made better because of your passion and your pride in LSU. Still, the Gators had a knack for getting the timely hit, drawing walks and forcing play when they got on base.

Hess then hit Nick Horvath with a pitch to make it 3-1 and Deacon Liput followed with a two-run single to make it 5-1. LSU was shut down in the top of the ninth, and Florida claimed the crown for 2017. "First in school history - and we'll always be remembered for that". "They're a very deserving national champion".

"He was basically dead", Poche said about the man's condition when he made it to him.

"It seemed like someone new stepped up each game", he said.

"We did a lot of great things this year", Deichmann said. The Gators took an early lead and never relinquished it.

Or maybe it just wasn't LSU's night. He gave up three straight singles, and the Gators drew first blood to lead 1-0. Even when things go wrong, as with Luke's rollover vehicle accident on I-85 near home in Charlotte earlier this month, they turn out fortuitously.
