And in a clear and direct reference to Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, the joint Indo-US statement said the leaders "called on Pakistan to ensure that its territory is not used to launch terrorist attacks on other countries".
"The relationship between India and the United States has never been stronger, never been better", Trump was quoted as telling reporters in the White House Rose Garden, standing alongside Modi.
Trump also said he will be working with India to create jobs in both countries and to grow economies of the two countries.

Commentators had predicted that Trump and Modi would find much in common, with both men having won power by portraying themselves as establishment outsiders. "And this visit should allow each leader ... to reinforce why this relationship matters to both sides of the equation, but also each leader can express any concerns that they might have candidly, man-to-man".

On economic cooperation, the two countries said they plan to undertake a comprehensive review of trade relations to expedite regulatory processes and increase market access in areas such as agriculture, information technology and manufactured goods and services.
"India appreciated the United States designation of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen leader as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist as evidence of the commitment of the United States to end terror in all its forms", the joint statement further added. "We will destroy radical Islamic terrorism". This is good news for both India and the United States, because it will mean they will join hands to take on the push by China for maritime supremacy.
