Winds whip up intrigue for final round US Open

The world No.13 mixed nine birdies and two bogeys during Saturday's third round before hitting his second shot to six feet on the par-5 18th and tapped in for eagle to record the lowest round (nine under) in relation to par in US Open history.

He made the eagle to get his name in the record book Saturday. Harman made a 30-foot birdie putt on the final hole to hold off Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez by a stroke.

Two other golfers have shot an opening-round seven-under at the US Open - Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf, both of whom fired a 63 in the 1980 edition of the tournament, which was played at the Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey. Going into the final round, 42 players were still under par.

World No.9 Rickie Fowler, who held the halfway lead, earned solo fifth with a 68, with Players Championship victor Si Woo Kim a shot back alone in sixth after also carding a 68. "I guess it's rare you get through a U.S. Open or any major without some kind of a hiccup".

"I don't know, but I'll be pretty happy", Thomas said. He shot 81 the next day in a blustery wind.

Wind was supposed to be one of the main defenses at Erin Hills, which is the longest U.S. Open course in history but also has the widest fairways the tournament has seen. But just for me, I felt like I've been playing pretty well all week, and didn't have quite the numbers to show for it.

Two more bogeys followed though and a double-bogey on the par-five 18th saw him finish four-over after a 76. "It sets up really well for me, especially if I'm driving it like I did today".

Kaymer got the good end of the draw when rain arrived at Pinehurst No. 2, and he opened with rounds of 65-65 to reach 10-under 130 and build a six-shot lead going into the weekend.

Top EU lawmaker says UK's aims a mystery
He noted the European Union wants to discuss divorce terms before moving on to the shape of its future relations with Britain. But once the proper negotiations do get underway, they will follow a four-week pattern devised by the European Commission .

"But more important than that was just to get myself in contention to win the tournament".

However, the Englishman then bogeyed the next hole before carding a damaging eight on the par-five 14th.

Fowler, sharing a house with Thomas this week, was being left behind until he ran off three straight birdies and shot 68.

Harman might be the surprise leader after three rounds at the U.S. Open, but there was nothing ordinary about his game. In the hay left of the 12th fairway, he gouged it out with a 9-iron and watched it roll to 10 feet.

Kubly said that, in a way, the stars aligned when he learned that Lang, who'd initially bought the barn and farmland to use to film a movie, was interested in hiring him to build a championship-caliber golf course. "We're definitely in good position for tomorrow".

"I was able to get to a few under by just accepting the fact that the putt might miss instead of having to have it be flawless". Majority had to come from far back going into the weekend, and it was hard to put together two good rounds.

Fleetwood picked up a victory in Abu Dhabi on the European Tour while Fowler is widely regarded right now as the best golfer never to have won a major.
